When is a guitar not a guitar?

When is a guitar not a guitar?

When it’s second fiddle.  ha ha          ha.

I’ve mentioned that I was vehemently pro guitar in my early musical listening, so much so that I would avoid purchasing music that was evidently not lead guitar centric.  I did listen to some of the music, but I did not actively pursue these artists nor purchase their records.

At the time, I did not feel that I was missing anything.  It was only later that I realized my bias was limiting my musical landscape and thus my enjoyment of music.  So what triggered the change?  Upon reflection, I can’t think of any specific event.  I guess it must be one of those “maturing moments” wherein you eventually realize you don’t know everything and that your points of view need adjustment.

And our points of view do benefit from reflection and adjustment.  It’s just like the rear view mirror in the car – you can have it set just right, and be the sole driver, but from time to time, it mysteriously needs a small realignment.

So, here’s a playlist of songs that I enjoy in which the guitar is not front & centre.  They are in chronological order of release date, and it’s mildly interesting to me to hear the evolution of the song making over time.
