If you know the name Waddy Wachtel, then you’re familiar with one of the best & most prolific session guitarists and producers of the rock era. Even if you’re not familiar with him, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard his work.
Wachtel has been in the music industry since the early ’70’s and is still at it. I think my first exposure to Wachtel was his backing up Linda Ronstadt during her appearance in the movie FM. Her set in the film was excellent as was her backing band. He was even in The Poseidon Adventure as a guitar player in the ship’s band. The ship sank, but his career didn’t.
As seen in this playlist, Wachtel has worked with numerous artists and has been part of some substantial hits. His website lays out all his session work, producing, film scoring and appearances. I hadn’t realized that he was on SCTV’s The Fishin’ Musician as part of Joe Walsh’s band. That was definitely a hoot, going back to Scuttlebutt Lodge.
