A member of the guitar great birthing group John Mayall’s Blues Breakers, a founder of Fleetwood Mac, the writer of Black Magic Woman, a great guitarist and a troubled soul, Peter Green passed away July 25, 2020. We lost one of the best blues/rock guitarists and writers of all time.
Green had a tone and a haunting, atmospheric guitar style all his own. His playing created lush soundscapes in which we could immerse ourselves and float away. Then he could also crank out some real hard cuts. His was a sound that embraced the spaces as well as the notes.
More in depth info on his biography is here, wiki bio and the BBC.
My playlist of his selected works is below. All songs written by Peter Green, with the exception of “The Stumble” written by Freddie King & Sonny Thompson.
Yes, a great player. I did a post on the early Fleetwood Mac a few years back when I first started blogging. Re-posted it the other day. I still listen to that version of the band quite a bit and there are a few albums by them up on Spotify.
