The Psychedelic Aliens – Pyscho African Beat

I came across The Psychedelic Aliens as I was looking to expand my music library.  Google is your friend in such endeavours as are streaming sites such as the ones I have in my Useful Links section.

At that particular moment I was looking to build my psychedelic library, and I’m always on the lookout for bands from regions of the world that are less represented in my library.  This particular search was “psychedelic music Africa”, and up came The Psychedelic Aliens.

This is not really a typical album release, rather it is a compilation of songs the band had recorded from 1969-71, before they disbanded.  Although there are elements of the pop psych of the times, it isn’t really a psychedelic album to my tastes.  This does not take away from a very enjoyable listen.  The music is rather more of a garage/pop/funk blend with tinges of reggae.  The organ work reminds me at times of ? and the Mysterians, and there are a couple of songs that have a Santana flavour.  I subsequently learned they shared a stage with Santana on one of his African tours.
