Supergrass – Life on Other Planets

Supergrass – Life on Other Planets

One of the goals of this site is to discover & share new music, and formed in 1993, Supergrass was new to me.  I enjoyed the album and thought it worthy of sharing.

I was in a T Rex mood the other day, and started an internet search to see if there were bands out there in that vein with which I was not familiar.  After a longish search, I happened across an old bulletin board where a fellow was asking about a song he heard on the radio that sounded like T Rex but he wasn’t sure.  He had missed the song’s intro & they didn’t mention the song name or artist when the song ended.

There was a lot of to & fro-ing in the responses, but he got his answer eventually – “Seen the Light” by Supergrass.  I listened to it, and there is a definite Marc Bolan influence there.  Good song!

I listened to the rest of the album, and while it is not a T Rex clone, it is a very good, rock/pop album.  It came out in 2002 and contains a very diverse set of songs, with good doses of humour thrown in.  It is a very enjoyable listen.  As of now, favourites are “Rush Hour Soul”, “Seen the Light”, and “Run”, the latter hinting at a “Comfortably Numb” influence.  I’ll have to look into the balance of their catalogue.
