Summer Essentials

Summer Essentials

It seems to me that if you have a music library, you are almost obligated to create a summer playlist.  They are all over the internet & streaming radio services, and cater to pretty much every musical taste.

A summer playlist is in the background for all our summer get togethers, whether on our deck, at the lake or out camping.  When we have folks over, there are usually different musical tastes at play, so I try to make sure several styles and date ranges of music are in the playlist.  I also make sure there are a couple of surprises in store, whether that be an oldie from “back in the day” or a style that folks would never have thought I’d have in my library.

For me, a summer playlist is best played in shuffle mode, so you’re not sure what song shall be next.  The songs in the list should have a certain “party beat” to them to keep everyone engaged, and encourage chair dancing at least.  They can also be reminders to you & the gang of good times you’ve had in the past.  If an extra beverage or two is consumed, so be it.  BUT make sure everyone gets home safely!!

This list is culled from my ever growing master Summer Playlist (currently at 304 songs & 17 hours).  The selection I’ve made is based on my tastes and frame of mind at the time of compilation.  The good thing is that you can always change a playlist, or create a new one as you see fit.

So, hit shuffle & enjoy!!
