Sufficiently Breathless – Captain Beyond

This is Captain Beyond’s second album, released in 1973, and is a marked departure from their first album.  This one is much more melodic and flows pretty seamlessly from song to song.  It’s a great album to put on and play as a whole (hence it being on my “desert isle” list).  I’ve chosen to focus on this album as it was a change in pace for them and an expansion of my musical tastes at the time. I still very much enjoy listening to it.

Their first album was the one that introduced me to Captain Beyond.  I had not heard them before and the decision to purchase that album was pretty simple given the band’s lineup.  Rod Evans was the original vocalist with Deep Purple.  Lee Dorman (bass) and Larry Reinhardt (guitar) were with Iron Butterfly.  The album’s cover art was spacey and attractive.  As it turned out, the heavier guitar-centric songs fit well with my tastes.
