Queen

Queen

A good friend of mine introduced me to Queen soon after this album was released in 1973.  He was always great at finding talent we hadn’t heard.  This remains a monumental album, and it continues to affect me in the same way as when I first heard it.  It is as fresh & stylistic today as back in ’73, which is rare.

Much has been heard from, and written about, Queen.  I’m sure the opinions about their catalogue of work & which is best, are among the most varied in the rock world.  For me, this, their first album, stands out.  It’s a grand audio spectacle, with a guitar style that reminds me of medieval pageantry.  It’s got all the elements that make Queen great: unique vocals & harmonies, driving guitars, drums & bass and a mix of hard rock & reflective melodies.  And, once I learned that Brian May had built his own guitar to produce a unique sound, that was icing on the cake.

This album foretold the musical legacy that Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor & John Deacon would create as Queen, and the subsequent success they would achieve.

Enjoy a listen, and keep yourself alive!
