Flutes!

The flute is an instrument one would not normally connect with rock music.  However, it plays a part in many good songs and certainly is a key element in the works of Jethro Tull & The Marshall Tucker Band, to name a couple of bands.

I thought it would be fun to pull together a playlist that contained songs with flute passages.  I had a few criteria: only one song per band; I had to like the song on its own; and the flute had to be an important part of the song, not necessarily present throughout the song though.  In some instances, the flute carries important parts of the melody, in others, it acts almost as a second vocal or guitar track.

When I think of flutes, I think of orchestration and a certain sophistication.  This lends to songs that are more melodic and slower in tempo.  Many of the songs here are of that nature.  However, that does not stop some artists from rocking the flute.  The playlist goes on quite a little journey through those melodic meadows & up those rocky hills.
