I don’t know that there’s a golden age of pop music, but this era is special for me. Perhaps it’s because I was growing up in this time, and music accompanied many important moments. Perhaps it’s because this was occurring in parallel with & influenced by the psychedelic, progressive and harder rock movements of the time. Perhaps it was because there was a hope for social improvement. Perhaps I’m talking through my hat. Or it’s a combination of all of these.
In any event, for me, these songs evoke a sense of innocence, hope, fun, love, and joy. And of course, there’s a certain nostalgia. At times in the past, I thought some of these were a bit too saccharin, but I’ve come to appreciate that music is a key to mood & place. So, I can park my judgemental side and just enjoy the music.
