A Foot in Coldwater

A Foot in Coldwater

A Foot in Coldwater’s first album was released in 1972.  As you may know by now, my musical tastes hadn’t really progressed beyond the standard hard rock fare of the time.  This album fit that mold and more.  They had their own sound, and they were Canadian to boot.  Guitars with wah wahs, organs, accompanying strings, lots of low end in the bass & drums, and Alex Machin’s gritty vocals – makes for an album that I believe should get more recognition.

While “Make Me Do Anything You Want” got substantial airplay, their other songs were equally as impactful, in my opinion.  “Fallen Man” & “Lady True” are good complementary rock ballads, which balances the driving rock of the remainder of the album.

After their brush with fame waned, they went on the rural Canada road tour.  We were ecstatic to see them at our local arena.  There was an intermission in their show, and I had to use the washroom.  Imagine my surprise and delight in running into Paul Naumann, their lead guitarist in the same washroom.  I said “I never thought we’d see you here”. He replied “Neither did we”.

RIP Paul Naumann.
