A departure here in that I’m looking at a couple of EP’s. EP’s (Extended Play) fit a niche for artists that were promoting new work, attracting interest in their catalogue, or wanting to get material out without having a full album ready. In my record buying heyday, they were a way to find new music at a price a little lower than a full album. Less music, though.
David Bowie
Interesting that three of these songs relate to space, with the fourth being a cover of the Ron Davies song “It Ain’t Easy” (previously covered by Three Dog Night and Long John Baldry). Space travel ain’t easy, I guess. This promo EP was released in 1972 and is good snapshot of some of the best of Bowie’s early career.
Texas Sun – Khruangbin & Leon Bridges
I first heard Khruangbin last year, and fell in love with their largely instrumental, exotic, rhythmic sound. It’s perfect mood music for just kicking back & immersing yourself – a swimming pool of music. Leon Bridges I had heard on the radio, so I was familiar with his work. I heard Texas Sun on the radio recently & thought this sounds very familiar and was pleasantly surprised to find out about this collaboration and EP.
This EP blends the styles of each artist into a new mood. It takes you out of the swimming pool and into the hot tub, mellowing out after a long, sunny day (or after coming back to earth).
