Was listening to the radio and on came Nick Lowe’s song “What’s So Funny ‘Bout Peace, Love and Understanding”. It’s a great song of his, but I prefer Elvis Costello’s cover on his 1979 album Armed Forces. That got me thinking about what I was listening to in 1979, 40 freakin’ years ago!
So, I started to dig around to see what I had from 1979. It’s not always an easy sort, cuz of the dating of albums online not always being accurate given compilations and re-releases. But, in this case, the internet was my friend, as was checking original vinyl releases.
I still enjoy the music which I believe speaks to its quality vs. my tastes being stuck in the past. There are quite a few songs with a strong message, and sadly, the messages are still relevant today. Hopefully, we can collectively give our heads a shake and start to make meaningful positive change.
