If you’ve seen my Guild of the Blues post, I’d say Sue Foley is a journeyman, having played for several years. She is a great example that the blues is alive and well.
This is a very well done album. With guest artists Charlie Sexton, Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Vaughn, Sue Foley creates a great sonic journey through a varied blues countryside. There is a great mix of tempo in the album, from the electric “Run” to the melodic acoustic work on “Death of a Dream”. You even get a little flamenco flavour in “The Dance”.
There is strong guitar work in the songs, both electric & acoustic. The addition of horns and organ to the gospel-tinged “If I Have Forsaken You” add a little extra spice to the mix. They then add a little punch to the uptempo “Gaslight” as does some nice sax work.
All in all, a good opportunity to throw the album on, relax and enjoy the journey.
