Reo Speedwagon

Reo Speedwagon

Is “Keep on Loving You” your understanding of REO Speedwagon?  If so, then let me take you to an alternate universe.  This is their first album (1971), and is pre Kevin Cronin & their power ballad success.  This album rocks so differently from their power ballads that it could be a different band.

I was pretty much into basic rock music at the time of this release, and this album, with plenty of guitar and piano, & a few showcase bits for the others, fit really well for me.  And it wouldn’t be early ’70’s without a little drum solo!

I haven’t listened to the whole album in years.  I remembered it as a decent album (hence my considering it for this blog).  I listened to this prior to putting this up here, and was pleasantly surprised.  It’s a very good example of the style prevalent at the time, and while perhaps not a classic album that has to be in everyone’s collection, it’s an enjoyable listen & stroll down memory lane.
